Zombie Arena grenades: clear a crowded arena
Grenades are most useful when the horde already has a direction. Lead the infected toward open ground, aim ahead of them and throw before they reach that point. Red barrels provide another way to damage a group. Your grenades and barrel explosions do not hurt your character, although enemies can still attack during the blast.
Play Zombie Arena
Aim where the group is going
Press G to throw toward your aim on desktop, or use the grenade control on touch. The grenade takes time to arrive. Place the aim a little ahead of moving infected so they enter the blast area as it lands. A throw aimed at a runner’s current feet can land behind it. You do not need to hit every enemy: opening one side of the group can be enough to give you a safer route for the next reload.
Use barrels to clear a firing lane
Red barrels take damage from your bullets and explode when destroyed. Nearby barrels can set each other off, and these player explosions do not cause self-damage. Watch the line of fire: a barrel between you and a zombie can intercept the bullet intended for that enemy. When a group gathers nearby, the chain reaction can damage it and remove an obstacle from your route. Keep watching approaching enemies while you shoot; immunity to your own blast does not protect you from their attacks.
Spend grenades when they prevent a bad situation
You begin with a limited number of grenades, and a new wave restores one up to your capacity. Waiting for the final wave while dying with unused grenades does not help the run. Use one when it clears the route you need or removes a dangerous crowd around a pickup. If only one distant shambler remains, a normal weapon is usually enough. Save the grenade for a group that would otherwise force an awkward retreat.
Choose Demolitions when you are using it
Demolitions adds grenade capacity and increases blast damage. It also refills your grenades when chosen. That makes it a useful response when explosives are doing the work of keeping your route open. If you routinely forget the grenade button, a different upgrade may help you more until you learn the habit. Check the available choices between waves and judge them against how you just played, rather than following a fixed upgrade order.
